The College Football Playoff Committee said the 31-point loss to the University of the Iowa was one of the factors why Ohio State was not selected for the tournament.

OSU finished with a record of 11-2.

Clemson University, the University of Oklahoma, the University of Georgia and the University of Alabama will play in the final four. A decisive 38-3 ACC Championship victory over Miami sealed the deal for Clemson, which only has one blemish on its resume, a 27-24 road loss to Syracuse in a game in which Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant was injured. "The College Football Playoff committee had a job to do, and they did it".

The Buckeyes beat an undefeated Wisconsin team in the Big Ten Championship on Saturday.

"The precedent was really kind of set a year ago in the Big Ten when Penn State beat Ohio State and Penn State won the Big Ten Championship", Saban told ESPN's Scott Van Pelt on Saturday evening. Alabama rounds out the top four after losing to Auburn and missing out on the SEC Championship but getting in the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. And it was a pretty significant loss at that.

The Tigers (12-1) came in ranked atop the CFP and should remain that way following Sunday's final poll after their decisive show left little doubt the defending national champs are looking to go back-to-back.

It was a point Saban made during his Saturday night politicking on ESPN. "But I get it. Move forward and get around people you care about - your family and teammates". "I was kind of hoping that we had those good wins". And, more importantly, we're missing out on what could be one of the best postseasons in sports if we ever got an eight-team playoff. But we have the flexibility and the discretion to put the non-champions into the top four.
