Ajinkya Rahane's father arrested after auto runs over elderly woman in Kolhapur

Driving in a Hyundai i20 on National Highway No 4, Madhukar lost control of the vehicle in the Kagal area and accidentally hit a woman named Ashatai Kamble.

As per reports, Madhukar was driving the vehicle and the family were headed to Tarkarli, Konkan via Pune-Bengaluru highway with the accident taking place in Kagal. The police are now interrogating him.

According to reports, people at the accident site took the woman to a nearby government hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. It has been reported that Madhukar's auto hit a 67-year-old woman near Kolhapur in Maharashtra. Ajinkya's father and family were travelling when they were involved in the accident. There is no conclusive evidence as to who was driving the vehicle. "Madhukar failed to apply the breaks on time and hit her", said Audumbar Patil, senior inspector of Kagal police.

The Kolhapur Police has registered a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Act 304A, 337, 338, 279 and 184.

Rahane is now part of the Indian team, playing the ODI series against Sri Lanka. The middle-order batsman is scheduled to leave with the rest of the team for a tour of South Africa later this month. Rahane has not played in the first two ODIs but the series is level at 1-1 and the decider will take place at Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
