"I will meet with them in my office and here's what I will say: I will tell them that impeachment is not about Democrats", Green said during a speech before the US House of Representatives.

Democratic leaders have urged Green to drop the idea, CNN said. All Republicans voted to turn away Green's resolution, while four Democratic lawmakers voted present.

At least a handful of fellow Democrats may vote for Green's resolution.

While Green is not the only member of Congress to have drafted articles of impeachment, he could become the first lawmaker to trigger a vote Wednesday.

Green cited Trump's equivocating in the wake of a deadly white nationalist rally in Virginia, his attacks on Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) and his criticisms of NFL players' kneeling during the national anthem in protest of police abusing African-Americans.

However, Republicans in the House will easily table the symbolic vote, according to the website.

The White House quickly dismissed the impeachment effort, labeling Green and his allies "extremists".

"Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment".

Several Dems contend that it's premature to bring articles of impeachment before special counsel Robert Mueller completes his investigation into the Kremlin's election meddling.

Representative Dan Kildee said Democratic lawmakers can not allow themselves to be drawn into a process "that's not thoughtful or complete or might not even be the conclusion we ought to draw".

The House vote on the articles of impeachment failed overwhelmingly, 364-58. "Right now, Congressional committees continue to be deeply engaged in investigations into the President's actions both before and after his inauguration", House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer said in a joint statement.

"He has harmed the society of the United States; brought shame and dishonor to the office of president of the United States; sowing discord among the people of the United States by associating the majesty and dignity of the presidency with causes rooted in white supremacy, bigotry, racism, anti-Semitism, white nationalism or neo-Nazism", Green said.
