West Ham co-owner David Gold insists David Moyes is "the best man available at this time" following his appointment as the club's new manager.

West Ham potential Moyes began to come to prominence when he was in charge of Everton, leading him to get the top job at Manchester United after being identified by Sir Alex Ferguson as the ideal replacement, which ended badly before he moved to failed roles at Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

The former Everton manager, who has been out of work since failing to keep Sunderland up last season, is seen as an uninspired choice by many fans.

Joint-Chairman David Sullivan said Moyes was the right man for the job.

The exiled former Sky Sports duo left for the sanctuary of Qatar - where their lazy sexist comments weren't such a big deal - back in 2013, and have been continuing to cover the Premier League ever since for beIN Sports.

The 54-year-old Moyes has taken charge of 499 games in the Premier League, most during a successful spell with Everton from 2002-13.

The good news for David Moyes is that he has just under two weeks to prepare for his first game, at Watford after the worldwide break. He resigned at the end of last season and was criticized for his negativity.

"I guess that's what's been our main reason for choosing David [experience], and I think it's flawless for him and ideal for us".

In his unveiling video on West Ham's Twitter account, Moyes attempted to rally the fans, saying: "I'm really looking forward to meeting the supporters, being in the stadium with them".

"You were talking about his experience, that's what we need". The team has been prone to collapsing after going behind — it has already lost by at least a three-goal margin on four occasions this season — and lacked any real identity under Bilic.

Moyes was 1-20 with British bookmakers to fill the vacancy at West Ham, with British media reporting he will be hired on Tuesday.
