Vikings were tempted to start Teddy Bridgewater this week

Per the Minnesota Vikings' official Twitter account, head coach Mike Zimmer has officially named Case Keenum as the team's starting quarterback for this Sunday's game agains the Los Angeles Rams.

And he's having a career year: after Sunday's 38-30 win over Washington, Keenum's completion mark sits at 64.9 percent, with 11 touchdowns against five interceptions. But until he proves he can play well against a decent opposing defense, it is still fair to be skeptical about Keenum being able to lead this team to a Super Bowl.

Minnesota is 7-2 overall and has a comfortable lead over Green Bay and Detroit, both 5-4, in the division.

For Keenum, it was his third game with at least 285 passing yards and two touchdowns this season. Not great, but not frightful, either, for a guy most consider a solid backup. He started the first nine games of the season for the Rams a year ago, before giving way to Jared Goff. He did start nine games for Los Angeles previous year, completing 60.9 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

In the meantime, under Keenum, the Vikings' pass attack ranks 12th-averaging 245.8 yards per game. But the Vikings have won in Keenum's last four starts and likely did not want to create a self-induced speed-bump during a season that has seen them get off to a great start.

The hope is that he continues that against the Rams. They would have a 10-day break between that game and their December 3 trip to Atlanta to face the Falcons.

The quarterback's return to the starting lineup, however, remains on hold.

Zimmer said the decision to start Keenum was "not hard".

Yet that's what we get this week in Minneapolis.

"You know, at the end of the day, to be honest, if it ain't broken, you don't fix it", defensive end Everson Griffen said about the Vikings' QB situation.

If you say it's you, I call liar.
