Soldier, Hizb militant killed in Kashmir

An encounter between security forces and terrorists broke out at Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

Security forces had surrounded Nowbug village after receiving information about the presence of militants there. "The troops returned fire, triggering an encounter", he said. One terrorist has been killed in the operation.

According to CNN-New18, a similar encounter is in progress in Tral too, where two-three militants have reportedly been cordoned off and fire is being exchanged between the militants and the security forces. "The militants were asked to surrender, but they fired from automatic weapons". The operation has not been called off yet, Pani said.

An LeT militant, identified as Muzamil Manzoor, a resident of Bardoo-Yaripora, Kulgam, was killed.

The police official said that till reports last came in, both the encounters were on in Kulgam and Pulwama.

A police official said Bhat was from the volatile Palhalan area.

Meanwhile, internet services were suspended across southern districts of Pulwama, Anantnag and Kulgam on Tuesday. "The security personnel fired several rounds in the air during the search. The operation was called off after no contact was established with them", a police official said.

This comes a day after two unidentified militants were gunned down by security forces in Handwara.
