New Star Wars trilogy

Having hired The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson to helm the new saga, Disney is optimistic of what Johnson is capable of and are happy to bless him with a clean slate saying, "We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi".

Details about this upcoming trilogy is unknown.

"We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on "The Last Jedi, '" Johnson and Bergman said in a statement". Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, referred to Johnson as a "creative force" and that watching him make "The Last Jedi" was one of her favorite moments of her storied career. Such a massive and lucrative undertaking would surely go beyond the basic idea of a new trilogy.

"The Last Jedi", which follows on from 2015's hit film "The Force Awakens" and is expected to focus on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), will be in theaters on December 15.

The most interesting thing about this new trio of films is that Lucasfilm has specifically stated that it will not deal with the Skywalker family.

When Colin Trevorrow was booted off Star Wars: Episode IX, a lot of people were surprised that Last Jedi director Rian Johnson wasn't hired as his replacement. "'Star Wars" is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it.

When Disney announced that it had purchased Lucasfilm and planned a new trilogy of Star Wars films starting with Episode VII, we always knew that this would only be the beginning.

The Last Jedi, which follows on from 2015's hit film The Force Awakens and is expected to focus on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), will be in theatres in Singapore on Dec 14.

The space opera franchise has seen several other spin-offs, including anthology film Rogue One and the forthcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.
