Red Wings coach doesn't agree with the NHL's 10-game of Luke Witkowski.

Witkowski has appeared in eight games with the Wings this season. Witkowski was assessed a game misconduct for returning to the ice to rejoin the fray.

"There's something to be said for making sure you don't get pushed around, and I'm a big believer in you have to fight for your teammates".

Late in the third period during Wednesday's match-up, Witkowski was ejected from the game for a brawl by officials and on his way down the tunnel, Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk speared Witkowski in the back of the legs.

The Flames scored on the power play when Ferland jammed the puck under the right pad of Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard.

Red Wings player says he wasn't aware of mandatory suspension for jumping over the boards to take part in a fight. "I don't know what I did should get 10 games, but that's the rule. It brings fans into the sport".

"Wisniewski, or whatever his name is, was just an absolute wrecking ball trying to start stuff, starting a complete circus with how many minutes left?" Just do something pretty stupid that kind of started everything.

"He was just looking for an excuse to come back".

Blashill believes there will be many suspensions around the National Hockey League this season for fewer games, but for far dirtier actions.

In total, the Flames and Red Wings combined for 121 penalty minutes.

Another fight between Jonathan Ericsson and Sam Bennett almost broke out in the final minute, but the referees intervened.
