The 44-year-old actor is reportedly in negotiations to play the male lead opposite Brie Larson in the upcoming film, according to Variety. In the time since then, Carol has taken on the mantle of the deceased Mar-Vell and became the true Captain Marvel, which is where she is expected to be in present-day MCU. In his secret identity "Walter Lawson", Mar-Vell befriended Carol Danvers, and he was present during the accident that transformed her.

Repped by WME, Julian Belfrage Associates and Karl Austen, Law recently signed on for the role of young Albus Dumbledore in Warner Bros' Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Gindenwald and finished Woody Allen's latest untitled movie and the spy thriller The Rhythm Section with Blake Lively. Although not said directly in this casting report, in comic books Mar-Vell is the Kree warrior who was Carol Danvers' namesake and mentor as the original Captain Marvel. The cast will also feature Samuel L. Jackson, once again returning as Nick Fury. This film will likely focus at least in part on that major comics arc, and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One) is onboard to play the film's villain, likely the leader of the Skrulls empire. She later adopted the Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel codenames in his honor.
