Google Search and Maps to add wait time info for restaurants

Google is already showing a lot of information about businesses, from the basics like opening hours through to what their busiest times are. Rolling out soon, wait times on Google Search (and coming soon to Maps) shows you the estimated wait at your favorite restaurants. The instant insight into wait times is part of a growing trend since Yelp and Nowait partnered earlier this year to deliver similar information. Google predicts it will be able to offer these wait times for nearly a million restaurants worldwide when the update is completed.

People can also check to see wait times for other days in the week.

To see wait times for almost a million sit-down restaurants around the world that allow walk-ins, just search for the restaurant on Google, open the business listing, and scroll down to the Popular Times section. The box shows the live or historical data labeled as "busy", "usually busy", "usually not busy", etc., along with the wait time. This could come in particularly handy for those bars and restaurants that don't take reservations (looking at you, Monk's).

Google says this feature will be rolled out to almost a million sit-down restaurants around the world. And up next, says Google: Grocery stores.
