Google Pixel 2 XL Flashing Screen Bothers Some Users

Some users have complained of an unresponsive mic on the Pixel 2 while buyers who bought the bigger-screen Pixel 2 XL have complained that their devices are suffering from random screen-flashes while locking and unlocking the device. This is not in fact a new problem. Interestingly, a few Nexus 6P users are also reporting the problem after upgrading to Oreo. Owners of both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL handset are already being recruited to join a class action suit against Google, HTC and LG because of issues with the display on both phones.

According to the complaints, the microphone on Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL doesn't work when the user is on a call or when the Google Assistant is running. A lot of users have tried disabling adaptive brightness on the Pixel 2 XL, but the issue seems to persists.

But if you're microphone is working perfectly, users are advised against to use this old-school technique as it may cause the microphone to fail. I was able to replicate the issue by blowing into the bottom speaker. Yes. Then I tested what you said and blew into the speaker on the front, then it immediately STOPPED working. Apparently, there is a fix that might bring the microphone back to work.

It's pretty rare these days to see the Pixel 2, and the Pixel 2 XL especially, in the news for anything other than the newest hardware issue cropping up. "I did reboot in Safe Mode and happened but once I rebooted normally it has not happened again", wrote the user. Another one posted a video which confirmed that the process actually works. I noticed it about 1-2 hours after purchasing (on 10/19/2017).

Google has acknowledged the issue and is offering RMAs (refunds or replacements) to customers facing the problem, 9to5Google reports.

Pixel 2 prices start at $17.60 and $20.31 with 35 and 25 percent discounts respectively, while the Pixel 2 XL still fetches at least $23.01 and $26.91.
