Once you enter that scenario you will need a tool on your Android smartphone to monitor your data usage, one that not only gives your data analytics but also gives you granular control over data being consumed by background apps. The application, dubbed Datally, tracks data usage on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis and provides personalised recommendations on how to save data, complete with notifications of public Wi-Fi hot spots available nearby. That's why Datally helps you to find and connect to public Wi-Fi hotspots.

Datally keeps track of mobile data that is used on the Android device it runs on.

It was tested in the Philippines initially and after a brief play I can say that Datally works pretty well.

You can download Datally from Google Play free of charge.

When you click on Manage Data, you get a graph of your data usage pattern throughout the day, in a graphical form.

Google is expanding its Android app catalog with a new app that's all about mobile data. There are a number of permissions required to use the app that you'll be asked to turn on, but it finds the data usage for apps you're using and displays it a clean simple interface. Or, sometimes when you wonder where are you spending your mobile data. This it does with tracking of Wi-Fi networks and providing commentary on their quality.

The app also has a feature that lets you stop all background data usage, so only the app that's actively onscreen can use mobile data. "And what's worse, it's hard to figure out where it all goes", said Caesar Sengupta, VP of the next billion users team at Google, in a blog post.

Understand Data Usage: First, the app allows users to understand their data usage. The initiative is also focused on basic features like storage management, which is why the app just takes tiny 6MB space.
