Instead, the airline used the Dubai trade show as a platform to announce an order for 40 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners from Airbus' main rival in an order worth £11.5 billion.

"Over the years we have continually refined and enhanced it", said Tim Clark, president of Emirates Airline.

Laid out in a 1-1-1 configuration, each suite comes complete with floor to ceiling sliding doors to create a fully enclosed space that encompasses a whopping 40 square feet.

But now Emirates, the Middle East's largest air carrier, has just upped its game after unveiling its brand new, state-of-the-art first class suites - which are estimated to cost from £7,000 per flight.

An artistic motif representing the Ghaf (prosopis cineraria) tree, is used as a design highlight throughout the aircraft.

Emirates' partnership with Mercedes also means elite travelers arriving in or departing from Dubai will enjoy complimentary Chauffeur service in a Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicle.

The collaboration inspired several design details in the private suite including the soft leather seating, high-tech control panels, and mood lighting.

Other new luxuries in first class suites will include a video call function to communicate with cabin crew for room service, as well as a built-in service hatch window where passengers will be served food and drinks with limited intrusion to their private space.

The design and shape of seats in its business class cabins have been modelled after the interior of a modern sports auto with a "sleek overall look and feel", designed with diamond stitch pattern on its full leather cover and an ergonomically designed headrest, the company describes.

Passengers in first class will have access to new Bowers & Wilkins active noise cancelling E1 headphones, exclusively designed for the carrier, to ensure optimum sound quality.

The new suites enter service on the Boeing 777-300ER from December. "Aside from our new fully enclosed private suites, Business Class features our latest fully-flat leather seats with personal minibars, Economy Class seats have adjustable full leather headrests, and the in-flight entertainment system has been upgraded for all cabin classes".

Speaking to reporters at the Dubai Air Show, an global showcase for commercial aircraft staged every other year, Clark said the refurbished jets would begin operating on routes to Brussels and Geneva, but would expand to other routes over time. No current plane has more than 10 seats in each row.
