In addition to nine leaders and eight new civilizations that come with their own unique units, districts, buildings, and more, the expansion introduces a number of new features to the 4X title. Rise and Fall will explore both a civilization's peaks and valley's, exploring both prosperity and hardship.

It's not all doom and gloom for those stricken by a Dark Age, though, as this enables special policies that are only available during that time and paves the way for the more powerful Heroic Age, which acts similar to that of a "triple Golden Age".

Rise and Fall brings new choices, strategies, and challenges for players as they guide a civilization through the ages. Announced just today (with a CGI trailer), Firaxis is going to expand its premiere strategy series with Civilization VI: Rise and Fall. Entitled Rise and Fall, this expansion looks jam-packed with new features, civilizations, and leaders.

GREAT AGES: As your civilization ebbs and flows, and you reach milestone Historic Moments, you will experience Dark Ages or Golden Ages, each providing specific challenges or bonuses based on your actions in-game. The new content will release on February 8, bringing with it major changes to the ebb and flow of gameplay. If it falls too low you can expect low yields, revolts and - potentially - the loss of the city to another civilisation. Governors can also be recruited and developed to enhance cities and reinforce Loyalty. The alliance system will be enhanced, and when a civilization becomes too powerful other civilizations will be able to join a pact against it to earn rewards or penalties.

You'll also get the ability to review your civ's history with the Timeline feature, which will show you historic moments on your path to global domination. Wage war, conduct diplomacy, advance your culture, and go head-to-head with history's greatest leaders as you attempt to build the greatest civilization the world has ever known. Each brings unique bonuses and gameplay, as well as a total of eight unique units, two unique buildings, four unique improvements, and two unique districts.
