Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 - 755 hp, 969 Nm of fury

This past weekend in Dubai, the most powerful Corvette ever made its debut in the form of the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1.

The LT5 boasts a massive 105 hp and 65 lb-ft advantage over the Corvette Z06's LT4 thanks to what Chevrolet calls a more efficient intercooled supercharger with 52 percent more displacement and the brand's first-ever dual fuel-injection system, which combines direction injection with port injection. It has 105 more horsepower and 65 pound-feet more torque than its predecessor, so it should be faster. All that is sent to the fat rear tyres via a seven-speed manual transmission, but for the first time on a ZR1 buyers also have the option of an eight-speed automatic. The standard rear wing generates a purported 70 percent more downforce than the Z06's standard aerodynamics package; equipped as such, the ZR1 can exceed 210 miles per hour, GM says. This provides 70 percent more downfornce than the Z06's base aero package and returns the highest top speed.

Both of the rear wings are tied directly into the car's chassis, as on the C7.R race auto, for the best possible strength and stability.

GM says that, on the racetrack, the new ZR1 is the highest-performing Vette in the nameplate's production history.

A new Sebring Orange Design Package will make it virtually impossible to ignore the new Corvette ZR1.

Like the ZR1 Corvettes that have come before, this will be a swansong model for the current generation of Corvette - which has been on sale since 2013. The bonnet features a new carbon-fibre "halo" design specially developed to help cool the big engine. An Available ZTK Performance Package adds a taller, 2-way adjustable stanchion-mounted rear wing that supplies significant additional downforce without introducing aerodynamic drag.

No price has yet been given for the ZR1, although sales will begin in the spring.

Unlike with the original Corvette ZR1, you can add lots of creature comforts to the 2019 version, including heated and ventilated front seats, a Bose premium audio system, and the ultimate social media bragging tool, a Performance Data Recorder.

Braking is taken care of by some eye-popping 394mm front and 388mm rear carbon ceramic matrix discs, clamped by six-piston aluminium front and four-piston rear calipers. Pricing has not been announced.

"Its unprecedented performance puts all other global supercars on notice that the ZR1 is back".

Chevrolet will be offering the new model in a special Sebring Orange Design Package, which includes the vibrant Sebring Orange Tintcoat exterior, orange brakes, orange seat belts and stitching, and other orange and bronze highlights.
