Deep fryers are a popular way to prepare your meal on Thanksgiving, but also could be the most risky.

The Chief Deputy Fire Marshal said the amount of home fires double on Thanksgiving day because so many people are cooking. The NFPA shows that this surpasses the average by 4 times!

"At Thanksgiving, when people are cooking multiple dishes and entertaining guests, it's easy to get distracted", said Lorraine Carli, NFPA's vice president of Outreach and Advocacy. A partially frozen or wet turkey can cause the splatter and overflow causing a fire.

Once it comes into contact with a flame, it becomes a fireball.

When using a turkey fryer take all necessary safety precautions to protect yourself, your family, and your property.

Fire officials also advise residents to avoid cooking when they are sleepy or drinking alcohol.

Children are also at risk and should be kept clear of the kitchen.
