Byron Maxwell was hoping for a call from the Seahawks

It's not all good news in the Pacific Northwest, however, as Richard Sherman is gone for the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon and safety Kam Chancellor may not be available against Atlanta after suffering a stinger last Thursday against Arizona. He began the season as the starter on the right side before going down in Week 4 with a groin injury, which allowed Griffin to take hold of that job in his absence. "I think we're going to keep moving forward".

Maxwell arrived in Miami prior to the 2016 season as part of a trade along with linebacker Kiko Alonso from the Philadelphia Eagles.

For Lane, it's another chapter in a unusual few weeks that saw him initially traded to Houston as part of the Duane Brown deal.

Lane figured his return would be awkward, but when he walked back into the Seahawks' locker room for the first time, teammates greeted him with a round of applause and hugs. "I had to stay mentally strong for it, but other than that it worked out", he said.

"I think he'll make it back", Seattle coach Pete Carroll said on his radio show on 710 ESPN. But Lane wasn't playing poorly before he was injured and Maxwell is returning to a system that may be a better fit for his skills than the ones he played in the past two seasons. He spent just one season with the Eagles before being moved to the Miami Dolphins and was released from the team back in late October.

While much of the attention was on Seattle's defensive adjustments without Sherman, the team was also answering questions from the National Football League about how it handled Russell Wilson's possible concussion evaluation after the quarterback took a hit to the jaw in the third quarter of last week's game. But he was in Seattle's injury tent for only a few moments and missed just one play.

Carroll also has touted the Seahawks' good fortune in getting back Lane, albeit under unusual circumstances.

"A couple of weeks go by, you're like, 'Am I going to play?'" Maxwell said.

Maxwell nearly nonchalantly spoke about the process of coming back to Seattle. But yeah, I was thinking I'd get a call before this, in a week or two. We made it through the game.

"We're very fortunate", Carroll said.
