AT&T experiences severe outage, offers no explanation and only basic solutions

AT&T customers are having problems making calls in a sporadic national outage Wednesday, according to news reports.

AT&T quickly responded on twitter, telling users to "restart your device - that should resolve the issue". "These users should restart their devices, which should resolve the issue".

No word on what caused the problem.

Affected AT&T customers who try to make phone calls are receiving either a "Call Failed" message or a recording that the call can't be completed as dialed.

As of 6 p.m., the Outage.Report map was still showing a lot of red, including in eastern Texas, southern Louisiana, central Florida and in the New York City area. Thousands of customers were reporting that their AT&T cellphone service was out. If the issues persist, at least for the time being, there's also the option to place calls over your Wi-Fi network thanks to AT&T's Wi-Fi calling feature.

According to, customers reported more than 6,000 incidents by 6 p.m. EST (2300 GMT), out of which 44 percent found problems with the internet service, while 31 percent faced issues with the phones.
