At least 33 injured in New Windsor cosmetics factory explosion

Among those injured were Newburgh, New York, firefighters, a news report said.

Several injuries were reported after two explosions and a fire Monday morning at the Verla International Ltd. cosmetics plant in New Windsor, NY, the Middleton Times Herald-Record and other area news organizations reported.

"I don't believe at this point that it is completely under control", Green said. It's located at 463 Temple Hill Road in New Windsor in Orange County.

All those injured suffered non-life threatening injuries and are expected to survive.

One employee remains unaccounted for.

There's no indication yet as to what caused the blasts and fire.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered a full state response.

Green says the injured include a firefighter who was being taken to the burn unit at Westchester Medical Center.

A plume of black smoke was seen billowing out of the factory as firefighters battled the blaze.

Green said fire crews from across Orange County and from neighboring counties responded, along with hazardous materials teams.

The factory is about half a mile from the town hall and police station in New Windsor, on the Hudson River's west bank, 55 miles north of New York City.
