When attempting to use "I" as a word, some users are seeing it replaced with an "A", along with a unicode question mark character in the prediction field.

The bug will eventually be permanently fixed in a software update, Apple said.

Go to Settings, then General, then Keyboard, then Text Replacement.

Instead, Apple posted this workaround on its support site over the weekend. Even if your phone can type the letter "i", you'll likely still see the garbled messaging if it's been sent from a device that has been affected.

Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. Scripps National Desk. The bug exists in the updated versions of iOS 11.1, though not all the users are facing the problem, its only limited to some.

Not surprisingly, the bug is frustrating many Apple users.

"For some reason inside the keyboard replacement settings pane, typing an uppercase I works". Apple wasn't immediately available to comment on when it was going to fix the problem. Owners of Apple's watchOS, the operating system for its smartwatches, say their devices are crashing when requesting information related to the weather, according to The Guardian.

User @mcwm tweeted: 'I have a $1,150 [£877] telephone that can't read the letter "i"'.

Previously the problem was limited to only in 2016 iPhones and older models, but now iPad and iPhone 8/iPhone 8 Plus users are complaining various problems after the update.

The glitch arrived with iOS11.1, which was released last week, bringing with it hundreds of new emojis.
