Tourism Secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena said the boat belonged to a private company, River Boat Adventures, which had permission to operate only two small boats - a 2-seater and a 4-seater. Andhra Pradesh DGP Sambha Shiva Rao confirmed recovery of 11 bodies. The boat with around 38 persons was heading to the Pavitra Sangamam Ferry ghat near Ibrahimpatnam. "Rescue operations are on to know the whereabouts of missing persons", deputy chief minister N Chinna Rajappa, who holds home portfolio, told reporters late evening. The police is trying to identify the other victims.

The NDRF said three teams of it are now performing operation.

The boat overturned as it was nearing the ferry point at around 5:45 pm. They had travelled to Bhavani Island by an AP Tourism Development Corporation boat. Another three passengers were rescued by the teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) late in the night.

The boat's carrying capacity is 24 people. They also complained that there were no life jackets on the boat.

The survivors alleged that they had asked driver for life jackets for everyone on board, but he had only supplied them with 15 life jackets saying that they would not need them while travelling in a modern boat.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed shock over the accident and ordered a probe by a senior police officer.
