The U.S. destroyed Paraguay 5-0 in the competition's first knockout round, with Weah catching the eye - particularly on a stunning second from long range.

Germany became the first team to punch its quarterfinal ticket with a 4-0 thrashing of Colombia on Monday.

United States of America kicked off their campaign with a 3-0 win over hosts India and then saw off two-time champions Ghana in an intense battle.

Paraguay had been ideal in group play, beating 2015 runner-up Mali (3-2), New Zealand (4-2) and Turkey (3-1).

Tim Weah grew up in NY and Florida, and he joined Paris Saint-Germain's youth system three years ago. In August 2014, he joined the youth program of Paris Saint-Germain, where his father starred in 1992-95.

Paraguayans depended on speed and blistering attack and those tactics helped them to breach the rival defence many a times but the strikers were off the target.

This U.S. team was seen by some as a one-man band, with U-20 World Cup standout Josh Sargent considered the unquestioned star, but Monday showed the wealth of talent in John Hackworth's squad. The quick-strike counter began with Sargent chesting the ball down to Carleton, who hit a perfectly-weighted pass to Ayo Akinola down the right wing.

However, the second half completely belonged to one person - Tim Weah. He faked out Rolon and unleashed from 22 yards a curling shot high into the far corner of the net.

Andrew Carleton, the Atlanta United Homegrown signing who had already been the USA's key midfield orchestrator in the tournament, had a career game against Paraguay.

Carleton returned the favour in the 74th minute as he assisted Sargent for his second goal of this World Cup.

"It's easy when you have a bad result for everyone to think so negative and no more so than when you miss a World Cup".

He also superbly set up Carleton's goal.

Striker Tim Weah lived upto his famous surname with a spectacular hat-trick that enabled the United States of America rout Paraguay 5-0 in the pre quarter-final of the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup, here today.

Following Weah's screamer early on in the second half, the South American team lost shape at the back and U.S. took full advantage of it, scoring three more goals.
