Texas Tech police officer fatally shot by student

Officers then took Daniels to the police station for further questioning. The officer's name was not immediately released. The suspect then fled on foot before being captured a short time later. It happened around 7:45 p.m. Monday at the Texas Tech Police building at 413 Flint Avenue.

I will be in Lubbock today meeting with law enforcement officials and Texas Tech administrators to offer the entire support of this agency to the university and their police department. The campus lockdown has been lifted.

The suspect student has been identified as 19-year-old Hollis A. Daniels.

It is still unclear whether Daniels had the gun on him when he was taken to the police station or if he took the weapon from an officer. Classes will resume normally on Tuesday, Oct. 10, but officials say people still need to avoid the Texas Tech Police Department and the north side of campus.

According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Daniels confessed to the murder of the officer and told detectives, "I f****d up" and "shot their friend".

State Senator Charles Perry said, "Heart breaking". That was when one of the officers fired three bullets at him, before shouting, "I'll f***ing shoot you!"

The identity of the Officer has not been revealed impending family intimation. "Proud of our law enforcement for arresting the suspect so quickly".

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Schovanec went on to express his deepest appreciation to the Lubbock Police Department, Texas Tech Police Department and Lubbock Sheriff's Office for their swift response. "And, we will continue to offer assistance to the University as it deals with this tragedy".

Earlier, the CNN quoted university spokesman Jonathan Seaborn, as confirming the death of the police officer.
