Spanish giant Barcelona are reportedly considering Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli as an alternative to Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho.

The 21-year-old has become hot property, with some of the world's biggest representatives looking to sign him onto their books, which could make Tottenham's desire to get a new deal completed a little more tricker.

They cite a report in the Daily Telegraph which states the creative midfielder's weekly wage at Spurs is now at €55k but a new contract could reportedly see that rise until €90k.

"He understands his responsibilities, that the spotlight is on him even more now that his career is progressing", said Southgate. Only three years ago he was helping MK Dons to a 4-0 League Cup triumph over Manchester United and promotion to the Championship.

Kane has once again begun the campaign in rich form, scoring 11 goals from the nine games he has played so far, while Alli has contributed to four goals in eight matches.

As well as being a fine player, Alli has caught the eye of Barcelona because of the price that Tottenham would want for him.

Coutinho, who joined Liverpool from Inter Milan in January 2013 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £8.5 million, scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in 28 Premier League starts last season. The manager moved away from a back four to a back three but it was more of the same from England as they struggled to carve open a side who now sit 105 places below them in the world rankings.
