Hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi blamed the former UPA government for stopping him as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from carrying out reconstruction of the Kedarnath shrine after the 2013 flash floods, the then Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Vijay Bahuguna averred that circumstances forced him to reject Prime Minister's proposition.

"By visiting Kedarnath today (Friday), Modiji has not only disrespected people of Uttarakhand but also showed his arrogance". He is said to have been frequenting the pilgrimage town every year before becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

While the Shiva shrine is deserted on Diwali festival as most priests and shopkeepers go back to their homes to celebrate the festival, this time round it is the reverse.

To over 2,000 BJP workers and their families in Varanasi, Mr Modi said, the journey of development in the entire parliamentary constituency is progressing fast and thousands of party workers have made a significant contribution in the success. During the meeting they agreed.

"They (opposition) created a furore when it was reported in the media that I was ready to take the ownership of Kedarpuri after the tragedy". PM Modi spoke at length about building quality infrastructure in Kedarnath, while preserving traditional ethos.

Donning a rudraksha mala and head smeared in "holy" yellow-coloured sandal powder, PM Modi vowed to redevelop Kedarnath and Uttarakhand, which has a BJP government, in to a popular tourist destination. "Modiji you forgot to tell people that the Congress government at the Centre gave a redevelopment package of Rs 6,000 crore for Kedarnath in 2013".

The Congress leader claimed that while it was the Congress led UPA government which had released Rs 2200 crore for the reconstruction activities in May 2014 to Uttarakhand government, the incumbent NDA government has not given the remaining amount.

He will be received by Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and officials before he heads for the Himalayan shrine.

Bahuguna agreed to the fact that Prime Minister Modi extended help and offered a cheque of Rs five Crore.
