More Than 20000 Girls Married Off Illegally Each Day

IN commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, the wife of the Oyo state governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, on Wednesday called for collective effort in protecting the girl child as they are more vulnerable to diverse forms of danger.

Today, during the International Day of the Girl, we commit to upholding the God-given rights of all and working to ensure that every girl is born into a world where she is free to live her life to the fullest.

A panel discussion bringing together the selected empowered girls as motivation for other young girls was also arranged. In many countries, girls are seen as a burden or commodity. "The poorest- particularly girls - are often left behind, their rights undermined", said the United Nations Population Fund.

She said adolescent girls have the right to be safe, educated, and live healthy lives, devoid of sexual, physical and emotional abuse, to enable them grow up to be very responsible adults and live productive lives. All stakeholders must address the issues and challenges faced by girls, the PCSW chairperson stressed. Along with it being an incredible showcase of girls' talents, the Freedom for Girls campaign provides resources on how to achieve the Global Goals by helping with things like stopping violence against girls, getting girls in school, and ending child marriage by 2030.

Madam Alainchar said Plan Ghana was committing itself for the next five years to have over hundred million girls to live, to decide and strive higher.
