Mane, Kane, Griezmann join Ballon d'Or list

The French newspaper has chosen to stagger the nominees throughout Monday.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane is in the running to become the first Englishman since Michael Owen in 2001 to be crowned the world's best player after being named on the 30-man Ballon d'Or shortlist.

Senegalese global Sadio Mane, Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Atletico Madrid winger Antoine Griezmann have been include in the nominees for the 2017 Ballon d'Or award.

That is one more goal than likely victor Cristiano Ronaldo has managed (42) in 2017 for Real Madrid and Portugal while Lionel Messi has only scored three more than Kane (46) with Barcelona and Messi.

Kane, 24, has been picked on the shortlist for the first time after scoring 43 goals in 37 games for club and country in 2017.

Neymar, who left Barcelona to join PSG this summer in a world-record move, came third in the voting in 2015 and was fifth a year ago, while Suarez has yet to make it into the final three-man selection.

Paulo Dybala, Neymar, Luka Modric, Marcelo and N'Golo Kante were the first names to be released, followed by a group containing Dries Mertens, Luis Suarez, Sergio Ramos, Philippe Coutinho and Jan Oblak.
