Barcelona are ready to reignite their interest in Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera as the Spaniard continues to stall over a new contract, according to reports.

UNITED are poised to activate a 12-month extension to Ander Herrera's contract if talks over a new deal remain deadlocked.

The Spain midfielder started the season on the bench but played 90 minutes against Benfica and Liverpool with Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini out injured.

His contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season and the 28-year-old is determined to stay, regardless of losing his first-team place.

The former Athletic Bilbao star's current deal expires in June 2018, leaving him free to discuss a Bosman move with foreign clubs from January onwards.

Herrera was crowned United's Player of the Year in Jose Mourinho's first season in charge.

While an extension is on its way, it remains to be seen how long a deal Herrera is set to receive.

However, the deal could be scuppered before it gets off the ground as Herrera has a clause in his current contract that allows Manchester United to extend his current deal by a further twelve months.

United are keen for the player to stay but are mindful that foreign clubs would be free to talk to the Spain worldwide from January.
