The appointment of Chauhan as the chairman of one of India's most prestigious institutions - by the Information & Broadcasting Ministry that was then headed by Mr. Arun Jaitley - was greeted by much shock and disbelief by nearly all quarters.

Congratulatory messages for Anupam Kher, many from the film fraternity, flooded social media.

Kher, who has earlier headed the Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board) and the exalted National School of Drama (NSD), is a versatile actor of global repute, having acted in the Oscar-winning blockbuster, Silver Linings Playbook while picking up various awards - including a national award - for his roles in various films back home in India. More so because Kher was given the prestigious Padma Bhushan in 2016. The appointment of Gajendra Chauhan, best known for playing Yudhisthira on TV epic Mahabharata, had sparked a major controversy a few years back.

"FTII needs somebody who is well-qualified, someone having a great body of work", said Kher. "The certification of my work is CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General of India) report". "What else do I need?" he said. However, Kumar stated that he does not see any difference between the appointment of Kher and that of Chauhan as the primary qualification seems to be their proximity to BJP or RSS. Since its inception in 1960, the institute has become India's premier film and television institute, with its alumni becoming technicians, actors and directors in the film and television industry. However, we are sure that he would do a commendable job and with his experience, commitment, dedication, and charisma the students of FTII will definitely be rewarded. Also, despite several unpopular decisions being taken by the administration in last two years, students have not come out with any strong response.
