Facebook Users Experience Downtime Of Popular Website

Facebook and Instagram experienced a global outage on Wednesday.

Reports from users on Twitter and websites like DownDetector and Outage Report suggest that connection issues began around 5pm SAST.

The website Down Detector said problems started around 4pm on Wednesday (11 October) with Europe and North America most affected.

Hundreds of Instagram users are reporting problems with the USA social network website every minute, DownDetector data reveals. The hashtag #facebookdown is a trending search term in the U.S. South American users reported problems in Argentina, Brazil and Peru.

Facebook confirmed the outage, saying: "We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram".

A number of users reported that the social network was back up after 1 p.m. ET.

A few of my colleagues at the Daily Dot are experiencing several different issues with both personal account pages and Facebook's Business Manager service.
