You knew that rap icon Eminem was going to clown when he took to freestyling at the BET Hip Hop Awards on Tuesday night, and the Detroit-born rapper known as Slim Shady did not disappoint.

Eminem invoked Trump in his opening line, calling it "the calm before the storm right here", referencing a phrase Trump used last week in regards to military action against North Korea.

Eminem ended the rap with a message to his fans who support Trump.

The freestyle rap, titled "The Storm", was released October 11 as part of the BET Hip-Hop Awards. He also accuses the USA president of distracting people's attention from domestic crises like Puerto Rico or gun control by "causing a Twitter storm with the Packers" instead, referring to the furore surrounding some National Football League players' decision to kneel before the American flag in protest of police violence.

"We better give Obama props 'cause what we got in office now is a kamikaze that will probably cause a nuclear holocaust while the drama pops, and he waits for s-- to quiet down, he'll just gas his plane up and fly around till the bombing stops".

Eminem, who is by far the most successful white rapper, ends the video by demanding that his fans forswear Trump.

"All of these terrible tragedies and he's bored, would rather cause a twitter storm with the Packers", Eminem rapped.

Eminem, whose music is rarely overtly political, made the intervention a year after releasing his last song - also a denunciation of Trump recorded in the run-up to the election. "Intensity's heightened, tensions are rising / Trump, when it comes to giving a shit, you're as stingy as I am / Except when it comes to having the balls to go against me, you hide 'em / 'Cause you don't got the fuckin" nuts, like an empty asylum".
