Trump described the dossier as "discredited and Fake", suggesting that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Democrats may have colluded to surface false and damaging information about him.

The company believes Republicans in Congress are trying to use bank records to breach Fusion GPS's confidentiality agreements with its clients and identify who paid for the Russian Federation research, a lawyer for the company told ABC News.

Fusion GPS executives Peter Fritsch and Thomas Catan dodged every single question asked by members of the House Intelligence Committee during a hearing, according to sources speaking to Breitbart News.

The dossier, first released publicly by Buzzfeed, was filled with unfounded smears about Trump that lacked evidence or proof.

"Congress is trying to find out what Fusion GPS is trying to hide", a congressional official told ABC News.

"Should you compel any of our three clients [also including Glenn Simpson, the third Fusion GPS co-founder] to appear at the scheduled deposition, they will invoke their constitutional privileges not to testify", Levy said.

In his series of Thursday morning tweets on Russian Federation matters, the President also falsely claimed that Hillary Clinton was involved in striking a uranium deal during former President Barack Obama's tenure, as he did several times on the 2016 campaign trail, although there's no evidence of her involvement. "We've done that with other committees, and will continue to do so". When it became clear Trump would win the nomination, the benefactors of the dossier became Democratic supporters of Hillary Clinton.

In early 2016, Fusion GPS began investigating Trump at the request of an unnamed Republican client. However, he has worked for them in the past, participating in the 2015 investigation into allegations that officials leading the worldwide football federation, FIFA, were part of a massive bribery and fraud ring. It also alleged Moscow had compromising footage of the US President.

Mr Trump has denied all the allegations.
