Almost two weeks after Sherin Mathews, a 3-year-old adopted girl of Indian American parents Sini and Wesley Mathews, went missing in Texas, the couple will appear in court Monday to regaining the custody of their biological child.

The Richardson police department said that the body had been recovered from a culvert near Sherin's house at around 11 am.

ABC13 reports Sherin Mathews, 3, disappeared from the 900 block of Sunningdale at around 3 a.m. on Saturday, in Richardson.

The young girl - who has developmental issues and limited verbal communication skills - was last seen by her father, Wesley Mathews, wearing a pink top and black pajama bottoms two weeks ago. According to the arrest warrant affidavit, the 37-year-old told police he punished Sherin because she wouldn't drink milk at 3 a.m. on October 7, leaving her in an alley where he knew coyotes had been seen. Her disappearance had distressed thousands and many had joined the search operations. The medical examiner's office is working to confirm the identity and the area around Spring Valley and Bowser is now a crime scene.

Local police were waiting for an Federal Bureau of Investigation evidence recovery team to process the scene on Sunday afternoon, Perlich said.

Sherin Mathews was reportedly placed outside by her father when she refused to drink her milk.

Perlich said Mathews and his wife adopted Sherin, who was malnourished when the couple took her in.

Dogs had been used in the search of the girl and police went door-to-door looking for any information on her whereabouts.

Police have found the body of a small child in Richardson.

The family called police five hours later to report her missing. Further, he allegedly claimed he saw coyotes in the alley close to him home, but detectives found no evidence that an animal dragged Sherin away.

Sherin's parents are also expected in court Monday to regain custody of their 4-year-old daughter who was removed from the home by Child Protective Services.

Sherin was described as 3-feet tall and 22 pounds with black hair.
