Dozens of walk-in donors showed up at Bonfils Blood Center Monday after learning about the deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas- ready to give blood.

Blood drives in honor of Las Vegas victims are also planned for Keller Williams Realty at 505 Hamilton Ave.in Palo Alto from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. today (Oct. 3) and the Quad at Google at 369 N. Whisman Road in Mountain View from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. tomorrow (Oct. 4). If you would like to help, see the links below.

INBC's blood center at 210 W Cataldo Ave, Spokane, was busier than usual today as local residents responded to the call to donate blood, she said. The blood donations collected here are not now expected to be needed in Las Vegas due to their suppliers and the massive donations made in Las Vegas, but blood banks try to always be prepared.

The center had not yet been asked yesterday to supply blood products to Las Vegas victims, but was "really just being prepared" in calling up regular donors and opening its doors to new ones, collection manager Renee Gipson said. The blood center is most in need of Type O negative and positive blood, as they are compatible with most blood types.

Blood has a shelf life, officials say, so it is important that donations are given on an ongoing basis. Ayer said after the attack there was an initial call for blood supplies but were fully stocked, leaving neighboring banks like the one in Redding on standby if more was needed.

"All types of blood are always needed because we never know what's going to happen", said Scott. To make the process as quick as possible, fill out the Fast Track Health Sheet before you arrive, and be sure to bring a photo ID.
