Jeff Goldstein, of Warner Bros, said Blade Runner 2049 had disappointed in smaller cities and in the South and Midwest, where the running time and baseball playoffs appeared to have deterred moviegoers.

Blade Runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve starring Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Barkhad Abdi and Robin Wright.

Between Thursday's previews and Friday's screenings, the film made $12.7 and by Saturday revenue had dropped 11 percent to $11.4 million. "It's a tough one, because Denis made a lovely movie", Warners domestic distribution chief Jeff Goldstein said.

"We did well in the major and high-profile markets", he said. It's a tough one, because Denis made a attractive movie.
