Cooper and Cohen have been friends for years, with Cooper appearing on WWHL after Griffin was sacked from CNN's New Year's Eve special. CNN says Cooper will co-host its New Year's Eve celebration teamed with Cohen. Anderson Cooper, the primary host of the event, said that "Andy is the life of the party" and will undoubtedly be the ideal addition to this year's New Year's bash.

After Griffin posted a photo of herself brandishing a severed head that looked like President Trump, CNN made a decision to cut ties with the comedienne. Cooper said in a press release.

CNN has aired a New Year's Eve show for more than a decade. We've traveled the world together and performed in 30 plus cities with "AC2" and it's all led to this one huge night!'

In August, she said she's "no longer sorry" for the bloody Trump effigy, adding the "whole thing got so blown out of proportion and I lost everybody". During that time, Griffin also headlined her own Bravo reality series, My Life on the D List, which ran for six seasons before it ended in 2010. The two tour regularly and host a night of conversation across the country.

Due to their friendship, Cohen and Cooper have frequently appeared on each other's program.

The pair have been friends for decades, performing in standup/discussion shows across the globe.
