Not that the draw would have suited Peru, if they had won they would have gone through to the World Cup automatically.

In September 2016, Matchday 6 saw Chile play Bolivia at home in Santiago and the match did not go according to plan for La Roja as the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

But now they face New Zealand in a tricky two-legged intercontinental play-off in a bid to make it to Russian Federation.

"In the last few minutes, we were tougher for the experience against Paraguay and when the goal came it was not easy", he said.

Players from Colombia and Peru have denied they deliberately colluded to make sure both had a chance of qualifying for next year's World Cup in Russian Federation.

New Zealand's men's soccer team boss Anthony Hudson has pulled no punches on his side's intercontinental World Cup play-off opponent, saying Peru were his preferred adversary for a ticket to Russian Federation. "They knew what the situation was in the other games", Tapia confirmed to Panamericana TV.

"I spoke with Falcao and he said to me that we were both in, so there was happiness about that".

"We have to enjoy this because we knew how to handle every moment, defiant and patient when it was necessary, overcoming injuries or poor performance".

"It is best to travel as fast as possible, but we also have to see how we will handle the issue of players [who play] overseas", Gareca said.

In it, he congratulated the team, before going on to say this about their playoff opponents: "OK, it's a attractive country, but we're going to beat New Zealand".

"What I can say is that this team will never give up".

New Zealand has never beaten South American opposition, with three draws and 11 losses against team from that continent, but Hudson has faith that his team can engineer an upset.

"It seems to me, although it is the responsibility and decision of the directors, we must speak and evaluate what they want for the team, try to choose the best option", Pizzi said.
