Sensex Rises 194 Points; Nifty Closes Above 10000

The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex was up 142.44 points at 31,829.96 at 10.45 am and the National Stock Exchange Nifty was 47.25 points above at 9,982.05.

"However, investors would be wise to not throw complete caution to the wind as markets assess the possible economic impact of hurricane Irma as it chews its way up the Florida coast", said Lakshmanan.

"Markets across the globe took a breather from the recent sell-off and traded in positive territory today". The MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan gained 0.4 percent.

The government said on Saturday it would increase taxes for mid-sized, large, and sports utility vehicles under the recently unveiled nationwide tax.

Auto stocks Maruti Suzuki (up 2.41 per cent), Motherson Sumi (up 1.46 per cent), Bharat Forge (up 1.37 per cent) and MRF (up 1.18 per cent) among others, aided gains. Shares of Bharat Financial Inclusion ended 3.4 per cent higher at Rs 966.90, after hitting a 52-week high of Rs 979 earlier in the session.

In sectoral front, Nifty infra surged 1.83 per cent, CPSE 1.43 per cent, private banks 1.31 per cent, bank 1.24 per cent, consumption 0.75 per cent, realty 0.67 per cent, energy 0.66 per cent, financials service 0.64 per cent, commodities 0.61 per cent, metal 0.60 per cent, auto 0.56 per cent and FMCG 0.56 per cent.

IndusInd Bank soared to trade at a record high of Rs 1,802 per share on NSE.

Asian Paints, HDFC Bank, NTPC and PowerGrid all climbed by up to 2.84 per cent. Rising for the third straight day, the 30-share BSE index index too rose 186.61 points or 0.59 per cent to quote at 31,874.13.

Top index gainers were Indusind Bank (5.62 pct), Tata Power 4.68 pct, L&T 3.88 pct, GAIL 3.87 pct and yes Bank 2.97 pct.

In Europe, STOXX 600 gained 0.6 per cent, Reuters reported.
