"Under no circumstances must Kenyans ever allow our free, competitive process to become a threat to the peace and security of our nation", Kenyatta said.

The first election - won by President Uhuru Kenyatta - was overturned by the Supreme Court, which concluded September 1 that the vote hadn't been conducted in accordance with the constitution.

Wafula Chebukati, the commission's chairman, has said the body was committed to holding a lawful vote and replaced six of its top managers, including the heads of operations, information technology and the national tallying center.

While Kenyatta accepted the ruling, he's criticized the decision by calling the judges "crooks" and saying he plans to "fix" the court if he is re-elected. But the president struck a different tone Tuesday, as he called for the three arms of government to respect the will of the people. The mark is the choice.

Mr Odinga - who led his co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang'ula in the campaign - said the tyranny of numbers enjoyed by Jubilee in both the National Assembly and the Senate is as a result of the rigged polls. We have given conditions under which we will participate in these elections.

"As things stand now, most of the people that ran the August 8 elections are still in office and the system that they used has not been changed", Peter Wayande, a politics professor at the University of Nairobi, said by phone from the capital.

On Monday, Kenyan police detained a ruling party lawmaker and a former opposition senator for alleged hate speech.

In a press briefing aired by all major local televisions, he announced his intentions of ditching the Jubilee party for the Nasa Coalition. The opposition said it was given a document without sufficient time for review, while the ruling party said it was happy to move into the next elections with the current configuration of the IEBC.
