However, Hellboy has managed to carve out a nice legacy for himself with film fans, and David Harbour's take on the hero has got fans hyped.

Comic book creator Mike Mignola revealed in May that a "Hellboy" reboot was in the works, with Stranger Things' David Harbour as the cigar-smoking, cat-loving son-of-a-demon.

The image Lionsgate and Mignola shared shows Harbour in all his red Hellboy glory, standing shirtless with his classic shorn horns, intimidating expression, and strong jaw out on full display.

To be honest, there aren't many surprising differences between this makeup and Ron Perlman's portrayal of the character in Guillermo del Toro's films.

Hellboy is now in pre-production, but is slotted for a 2018 release.

While Harbour does look quite similar to the version played by Perlman, his version appears a little more rugged.

"Please allow to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste", Harbour tweeted Wednesday. Both looks very accurately capture the essence of the character; and the tone of the respective films will likely merit the minute changes.

It'll likely become a bustling source for all things Hellboy over the coming weeks and months, particularly once Neil Marshall's "dark" and "gruesome" reboot begins shooting across parts of England and Bulgaria from September onwards.
