The models involved are: Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs from the 2013 to 2017 model years.

Fiat Chrysler is recalling almost 500,000 medium- and heavy-duty Ram trucks due a water pump issue that could potentially lead to a fire.

FCA also notes that it no longer uses the water pump in question.

All but 50,705 of the affected Fiat Chrysler vehicles were sold in the US market, with the remainder sold in Canada and other global markets, it said.

So Fiat Chrysler is recalling nearly 50,000 Pacifica vans in the USA and Canada from the 2017 and 2018 model years.

No injuries have been reported, but owners will be notified and can get a replacement at any dealer location.

The water-pump bearing used in the trucks may overheat and could cause an engine-compartment fire after exposure to certain conditions, according to Fiat Chrysler.

In some cases, the water pump problems activate a warning light on the dashboard. Dealers will inspect the water pumps and replace them if necessary.

Owners will receive a notice from Fiat Chrysler when service is available. The action isn't the first one this year involving Ram pickups.
