Explosion at cricket stadium during match - at least three dead

A security source confirmed that two security personnel in a check post located close to the stadium lost their lives in the attack and some others including security personnel and civilians were wounded.

The Kabul International Cricket Stadium is hosting the matches of Shpageeza Cricket League season that kicked off on Monday and will continue till September 22.

Officials said a cricket match was underway when the incident occurred.

The explosion happened at around 3:45 p.m., police spokesman Basir Mojahid said.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack.

The attacker detonated the bomb after he was stopped at a security checkpoint as he walked towards the stadium where a match was under way.

The Shpageeza Cricket League was established by Afghanistan Cricket Board in 2013 and is now in its fifth season.

The game was briefly interrupted, Hotak said, adding "all players and cricket board officials are safe".

Afghanistan has always been a victim of terrorism and has been deprived of regular global cricket games due to security concerns.
