Delhi University Student Union Elections are taking place to fill four major posts. The elections are for the academic year 2017-2018.

The court issued show cause notice to over 10 candidates of various parties, including ABVP and Congress-backed NSUI, and asked them to explain why action should not be taken against them for allegedly defacing public property by pasting advertisments and putting banners. HC in its Interim order had allowed contesting the election but advised the varsity not to declare the results for the president post. "Despite several warnings and media reports, both NSUI and ABVP continue to use printed matter and litter the campus with their posters and pamphlets even on a no-campaign day. Subject to the final outcome of the writ petition, the final result will be declared", it had then said.

A bipolar affair historically, the election this year has seen the rise of another student group, the radical left AISA, which has found many supporters among students after the brawl at Ramjas College in February and turned the usually bilateral contest between the ABVP and NSUI into a multi-cornered fight.
