Diego Costa leaving Premier League winners Chelsea, will re-join Atletico Madrid

Atletico said the 28-year-old Brazil-born Spain global, who left the club to join Chelsea in 2014, would have a medical in the next few days before completing the move in the New Year.

Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Diego Costa, according to reports in Spain.

Chelsea have now confirmed a deal is in place and Costa will become an Atletico Madrid player subject to completing a medical and agreeing personal terms with Los Rojiblancos. The agreement is pending the formalization of the contract between our club and the Spanish global forward.

Atletico said Chelsea gave the Spain global permission to travel to Madrid in the coming days to take his medical and finalize the contract with his former club.

Brazil-born Costa joined Chelsea from Atletico for a reported £32m three years ago.

Spanish media said Costa's transfer will be worth almost 60 million euros ($72 million).

The attacker Spanish global will however have to wait before being reunited with his former public, l'Atletico being banned from recruiting until January 1, 2018.

The Blues named Costa in their Premier League squad for the season, but he is yet to show up and it doesn't look like he will either. Therefore, the teams did not feel the need to come to an agreement in the summer.

Costa's transfer is worth GBP48.8 million but coupled with a bonus clause of GBP8.8 million.

Luiz subsequently missed Wednesday's comfortable 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup and remains suspended for a further two Premier League fixtures. Atletico went on to lose in extra time.

The forward is eager to return to Atletico Madrid and has a close connection with Diego Simeone who is also determined to reunite with his former striker.

The combustible striker has exiled himself from Chelsea ever since that infamous text from Antonio Conte and is training on his own in a bid to maintain fitness levels.
