The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Travis Frink, was taken into custody trying to flee, pulled from a auto not far from the hospital's sprawling campus.

First responders arrived at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Tuesday afternoon following reports of an active shooter.

The incident occurred at 1.27pm when an "active shooter" call was placed to authorities, according to local reports. The attorney general hasn't given a motive for the shooting death at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

ABC6 News received the affidavit out of New Hampshire, which details what happened when 49-year-old Travis Frink walked into his 70-year-old mother's hospital room. The hospital was quickly and calmly evacuated while police entered the area to search for the suspect, the New Hampshire Union-Leader reported.

Over 100 members of law enforcement were involved, including Vermont State Police.

A neighbor of a woman shot four times and killed in her hospital bed Tuesday said the news broke her heart.

This story has been corrected to show the suspect's surname is Frink, not Frank.

At about the same time, police were told to be on the lookout for a gray Ford with Rhode Island plates.

A hospital spokesman said he couldn't confirm a shooting had taken place.

The hospital issued a "code silver" alert to employees, which orders people who can safely flee to do so, and the rest should shelter in place.

A gunman drove for hours to arrive at a New Hampshire hospital and kill his mother, according to prosecutors.

At the Tuesday evening press conference, DHMC chief executive officer and President Joanna Conray said that DHMC staff have participated in active shooter training and drills, which helped the evacuation run smoothly.
