"You are talking about a director at the top of his game, an actress at the top of her game".

Thankfully for us Ari Handel, one of "mother!'s" producers who has worked with Aronofsky throughout his career, has now provided us with some priceless insight, revealing exactly what the director was trying to say with the film.

Audiences rejected the film, slapping it with the dreaded "F" CinemaScore (note: other films to receive the same failing grade from audiences include Andrew Dominik's Killing Them Softly and Steven Soderbergh's Solaris; do with that what you will) and staying away in droves.

The thriller, which opens on September 15, is directed by Lawrence's boyfriend Darren Aronofsky and features household names such as Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer, in addition to Lawrence.

"The reviews have been just been cracking me up", Lawrence told reporters at the London roll-out of the movie recently following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

Audience members are reacting harshly to Jennifer Lawrence's new horror thriller mother!

Aronofsky was quick to assure Yahoo Movies that his dark film has nothing to do with his actual mother, who would be seated next to him at the premiere. By the time digital sales, Blu-ray/DVD and the rest of the box office is factored in, they should still break even.

Although September is shaping up to be a blockbuster month, it wasn't all good news at the United States box office this weekend.

"When I was 21 or 22 I was like, 'I can't wait to be a mother, '" she said. As EW explains, that's in the area of what the first John Wick movie made when it was released.

"My heart goes out to all of the people being affected by these storms".

"I've been a fan, so once he told me the ideas floating around in his head I said yes", Lawrence said of Aronofksy.

"This is the most that's ever been demanded from me and also the most I've ever taken out of myself". I I'm not sure it's supposed to happen that way. "And. we didn't do that type of movie".

Darren Aronofsky's brilliant Mother! has to be one of the most uncompromisingly bold and daring major Hollywood releases in years.
