The suspense over Willson Contreras' appeal to his two-game suspension didn't last long.

Contreras was ejected from Friday's game for arguing with home plate umpire Jordan baker and at one point slammed his catcher's mask down on the ground and it inadvertently hit Baker. The mask made contact with Baker's leg after Contreras was also ejected.

Contreras and Lackey also were fined by Major League Baseball.

After John Lackey appeared to have thrown strike three to Carlos Martinez, it was rule a ball and Martinez recorded a base hit to give the Cardinals the lead. Contreras appealed the punishment.

He'll serve his suspension Sunday with Alex Avila filling in behind the plate in his absence.

The two talked briefly before Saturday's game, during which time Contreras apologized.

"I did something wrong, and that wasn't me; that was the adrenaline from the game", Contreras said after Saturday's 4-1 win.

"It's good news", Maddon said. The Indians' Jason Kipnis got medical clearance to be activated and will play in center field. Even Martinez began to walk back to the dugout, but Baker called it a ball, setting Lackey off.
