Earlier Tuesday, an official from the Caribbean island of Dominica says officials have been told that the hurricane tore the roofs off 70 percent of the island's homes and that there have been unconfirmed reports of deaths.

"We will need help, my friend, we will need help of all kinds", Skerrit said on Facebook.

Hurricanes are highly unlikely to directly hit Colombia because of its location.

As cities struggle to recover from Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, Maria will likely continue on this road through Wednesday. Federal assistance will now refocus from Irma recovery efforts toward preparing for Maria and the Coast Guard will send aircraft to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The fare limit was originally put in place for Hurricane Irma.

The Caribbean is in for another possible hurricane.

Hurricane warnings were posted for the United States and British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guadeloupe, Dominica, St. Kitts, Nevis and Montserrat.

After quickly dropping to a Category 4 late in the evening, Maria has reintensified to Category 5 status, with estimated winds of 160 miles per hour, making this the strongest hurricane on record to make landfall in Dominica. NOAA Buoy 44014, located east of the Virginia-North Carolina border or about 160 miles west of the center of Jose, recently reported a sustained wind of 40 mph (65 km/h).

By mid-morning, residents were reporting heavy winds and rains, as well as power outages in various parts of the island.

Meanwhile, Jose remained a Category 1 hurricane in the Atlantic as it churned up risky surf and rip currents along the U.S. East Coast. The latest estimates predict Hurricane Maria will hit the U.S. Virgin Islands by Tuesday afternoon.

Hurricane and tropical storm warnings and watches were in effect for a string of islands in the area, including the US and British Virgin Islands, Antigua and Barbuda and the French-Dutch island of Saint Martin. A tropical storm warning was issued for Martinique, Antigua and Barbuda, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Maarten, St. Lucia and Anguilla.

The hurricane, which flooded the house of the PM, also blew off the roof of his house.

This hurricane season in the Atlantic has seen several major storms. On Monday night Maria became the first Category 5 storm in history to hit Dominca.
