The highly-anticipated middleweight boxing title fight between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, September 16. Alvarez is a former welterweight and super welterweight champion who moved up to a catch weight of 164 pounds for his fight against Chavez.

At 35, Golovkin is eight years the senior of Canelo, but the Kazakh insists he is feeling as good as ever and believes he can continue to box into his fifth decade.

Golovkin talked about why this fight is so big, not just for his own career, but for the sport of boxing.

But Canelo's ascent and the early signs of Golovkin's "decline" come with caveats.

The contest promises to be a fascinating one, and even the styles of the two fighters seem to complement one another, with Golovkin favouring an aggressive attacking approach and Alvarez preferring to sit back and hit on the counter.

There's a certain level of emotional investment that comes with Canelo-Golovkin.

The crowd in attendance was heavily pro Canelo, many being Mexican fight fans there to support their countryman. Can he possibly overhwelm a seemingly unstoppable force?

"I can assure you that I will do my part and I will do my best to give you all a handsome fight". Seriously, I don't know, just my training every day, I'm just the same. "Everyone remembers the era of Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran when they all fought each other". Canelo, is a very special guy.

"This fight does remind me of the great fights of the past when the middleweight division was thriving", Khan said.

According to CBS Sports, "Saturday's fight represents something far more important to the sport than any carnival sideshow can provide (no matter how entertaining or lucrative said fight turned out to be)".
