"I want to dedicate this song to Colin Kaepernick tonight", said Jigga, according to ESPN. "I do want to go out playing my best".

Kaepernick became one of the most polarizing figures in the country a year ago when he began kneeling during the national anthem before games, in protest of the multiple police killings of unarmed people of color.

Free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick wants to play football this season, even as NFL teams move into their second week of games without him on a roster.

The quarterback's protest gained traction in the league and dozens of players have joined him in protesting police brutality and the treatment of people of color in America since last season's preseason. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady backed Kaepernick and believes that he should get another shot in the NFL.

During his set, Hov also brought out reggae icon Damian Marley, who performed their collaborative 4:44 cut, "Bam".

In recent years, Jay-Z has been more outspoken as an activist himself. It's a story of empathy. "I hope he gets a shot".

"You have to admit that in the world of sports where we give actual criminals a fifteenth chance this guy shouldn't be denied the right to ever play again", Rock wrote in a lengthy Instagram post. He has donated $100,000 per month to various charities, as part of a $1 million pledge he made in 2016.
